Cronus Zen — Initial Device Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Cronus Zen device for the first time.

Step-by-step setup
Download Zen Studio
Go to cronusmax.com and download the latest version of Zen Studio for your operating system (Windows or macOS).
Install Zen Studio
Run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts. Zen Studio will also install the required USB drivers automatically.
Connect Cronus Zen to your PC
Plug the USB-C end into the PROG port on the back of the Cronus Zen, and the USB-A end into your computer.
Update firmware
Zen Studio will prompt you to update firmware if a newer version is available. Always update before loading scripts.
Device is ready
Once firmware is up to date, your Cronus Zen is ready to load scripts and connect to your console.
Cronus Zen — Firmware Updates
Keeping your firmware up to date is essential for compatibility with the latest consoles, controllers, and scripts.
Do NOT disconnect your device during a firmware update. This can brick your Cronus Zen.
Connect to PC
Plug your Cronus Zen into your computer via the PROG USB-C port.
Open Zen Studio
Launch Zen Studio. It will automatically detect your device and check for firmware updates.
Click "Update Firmware"
If an update is available, click the update button. The process takes about 30-60 seconds.
Wait for completion
The device will reboot automatically once the update is complete. Do not unplug until you see the confirmation.
Firmware update tips
- Always update firmware before loading new scripts
- Use a quality USB cable — cheap cables cause failed updates
- If the update fails, hold the blue button on the back for 10 seconds to enter recovery mode and retry
- Check the official Cronus Zen Discord for the latest firmware release notes
Cronus Zen — Loading Scripts
Once your device is set up and firmware is current, loading scripts is quick and easy.
Download a script
Get a .gpc file from the Vertex Zens Script Library or the Cronus Zen community.
Open Zen Studio
Connect your Cronus Zen and open Zen Studio on your PC.
Select a memory slot
Cronus Zen has 8 memory slots. Click an empty slot (or one you want to overwrite) in the Programmer panel.
Drag & drop the script
Drag the .gpc file into the selected memory slot, or use File → Open and then click Flash.
Script is loaded
The script is now on your device. Use the button on the Cronus Zen to cycle through memory slots during gameplay.
Managing multiple scripts
- You can load up to 8 scripts simultaneously across the memory slots
- Press the button on the device to cycle between active scripts during gameplay
- The LED color changes to indicate which slot is active
- To remove a script, right-click the slot in Zen Studio and select "Erase"

How to connect your Cronus Zen to each supported console.
PS5 / PS4
Connect Cronus Zen to console
Plug the USB-A output cable from the Cronus Zen into your PS5/PS4 USB port.
Connect your controller
Plug your DualSense (PS5) or DualShock 4 (PS4) into the USB-A input port on the Cronus Zen using a USB cable.
PS5 Authentication
PS5 requires a licensed controller connected for authentication. Keep your DualSense plugged in or use the Bluetooth bypass method from Zen Studio settings.
Xbox Series X|S / Xbox One
Connect Cronus Zen to console
Plug the USB-A output into your Xbox USB port.
Connect your controller
Plug your Xbox controller into the Cronus Zen input port. Xbox controllers authenticate automatically — no extra steps needed.
PC

Plug the USB-A output into your PC.
Connect your controller
Plug any supported controller into the Cronus Zen input. The device acts as a pass-through, and your PC will recognize the controller normally.

Common issues and their solutions, straight from the official Cronus Zen community.
Zen Studio doesn't detect my device
- Try a different USB cable — cheap or damaged cables are the #1 cause
- Use the PROG port (USB-C on the back), not the input/output ports
- Try a different USB port on your PC (avoid USB hubs)
- Reinstall Zen Studio to refresh USB drivers
- On Windows, check Device Manager for "Cronus Zen" under USB devices
Controller keeps disconnecting
- Use a wired connection — wireless can cause intermittent disconnects
- Make sure the controller USB cable supports data transfer (not charge-only)
- Update your Cronus Zen firmware to the latest version
- For PS5: ensure your DualSense firmware is also up to date via PS5 settings
Script isn't working in-game
- Verify the script is for the correct game and platform
- Check that you flashed the script to the active memory slot
- Some scripts require specific in-game settings (sensitivity, button layout) — read the script description
- Update firmware — older firmware may not support newer scripts
- Re-flash the script: erase the slot and re-import the
.gpcfile
LED is blinking red or orange
- Red blinking: authentication issue — reconnect your controller or use a different USB cable
- Orange blinking: firmware issue — connect to Zen Studio and update firmware
- If the LED won't stop blinking, perform a factory reset
PS5 authentication keeps failing
- PS5 requires a licensed DualSense controller — third-party controllers won't authenticate
- Keep the DualSense physically plugged into the Cronus Zen at all times
- Enable "PS5 Authentication" in Zen Studio device settings
- Update both your Cronus Zen firmware and your DualSense firmware
- Some PS5 system updates change authentication — always update Cronus Zen firmware after PS5 updates
I'm experiencing input lag
- Use a wired controller — Bluetooth adds latency
- Use the shortest USB cable possible
- Disable unnecessary in-game overlays (Steam, Discord, etc.)
- Make sure the script doesn't have excessive wait/delay values — check script settings
- Cronus Zen adds less than 1ms of latency by default; if you feel lag, it's likely from the cable or script
Cronus Zen — Tournament Mode
Tournament Mode disables all scripts and mods, making the Cronus Zen function as a simple pass-through adapter. Useful for competitive play or testing your setup.
Enable Tournament Mode
Hold the button on the Cronus Zen for 5 seconds until the LED turns white. All scripts are now disabled.
Disable Tournament Mode
Press the button once to cycle back to your loaded scripts. The LED will return to the color of the active memory slot.
Cronus Zen — Factory Reset
If your device is unresponsive, stuck, or you want to start fresh, perform a factory reset.
Factory reset erases ALL scripts from ALL memory slots. You will need to re-flash your scripts after resetting.
Disconnect from console
Unplug the Cronus Zen from your console and controller.
Connect to PC via PROG port
Use the USB-C PROG port on the back of the device.
Hold the reset button
Press and hold the small blue button on the back of the Cronus Zen for 10 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly.
Reflash firmware
Open Zen Studio — it will detect the device in recovery mode and guide you through reflashing the firmware. Re-load your scripts afterward.
