Xbox Series X setup for Cronus Zen requires attention to USB port placement and controller pairing order. The Xbox Series X has both USB-A (rear) and USB-A (front) ports — and the pairing sequence matters. This guide covers Xbox-specific nuances so you can skip the generic steps.
Xbox Series X hardware connection
- Connect your Xbox wireless controller (or wired Series X pad) to the Zen's controller port via USB-A cable.
- Connect the Zen to the Xbox Series X rear USB-A port. The rear port is preferred over the front for power stability with the Zen device.
- Turn on the Xbox — the Zen powers up automatically via USB.
Important: Do not connect the controller to Xbox wireless before connecting it through the Zen. Wireless pairing creates a second input path that competes with the Zen's wired passthrough. If the controller connects wirelessly, go to Xbox settings and forget the wireless pairing, then reconnect via Zen.
Xbox controller authentication
Xbox Series X accepts any Xbox-compatible licensed controller through the Zen's passthrough. If you use a DualSense via the Zen on Xbox (Zen supports cross-controller use), the Zen translates DualSense inputs to Xbox protocol automatically. This requires the Zen to be in the correct device mode — set via the Device Configuration tab in Cronus Zen Studio.
Xbox-specific game settings for scripts
- Input Latency: Performance — use Performance or 120Hz mode where available. Lower latency makes script timing more accurate.
- Deadzone: Minimum — same as PS5; scripts assume minimal deadzone for micro-corrections.
- Rumble: On while tuning — force feedback helps feel when recoil compensation is over-correcting during tuning sessions.
Recommended scripts for Xbox Series X
All VZ scripts work on Xbox Series X. For game-specific starting points: CoD library (Toxic v5, PowerUpCoD), Fortnite library (EVO Aim Assist), Apex library (Polar Anti-Recoil v3.3). For the full setup flow, see the complete beginner guide.
Troubleshooting Xbox Series X
- Xbox not recognising controller: Confirm the controller is connected to the Zen's controller port, not directly to Xbox. The Zen must be the only path between controller and console.
- Wireless interference: If you previously paired the controller to Xbox wirelessly, unpair it in Xbox Settings → Devices. Wired-through-Zen and wireless compete for the same input path.
- Slot not switching: The Zen's memory button on the device body cycles slots. Hold for 2 seconds to switch. On Xbox, the Guide button may map differently — check the Zen's config in Studio if the button behaviour is unexpected.
